Hybrid Bermudas
As a favorite warm season variety, Hybrid Bermudagrass has many
outstanding features of a desirable turfgrass. Hybrid Bermudagrass has no equal for its ability to recover from heavy use during hot weather and it is the top choice for summer sports use. Hybrid Bermudagrass is an attractive, deep green turfgrass that can be mowed short, is both drought and heat tolerant and has moderate water requirements. Hybrid Bermudagrass has both rhizomes and stolons, which make it a good choice for rapid establishment and minimal weed competition. The Hybrid Bermudagrass turf is very dense, quick to establish and adaptable to all soil conditions. Hybrid Bermudagrasses are vegetatively propagated which helps to minimize any pollen production thus reducing hayfever or allergy irritations.
H BAR H TURF FARMS grows two culitvars of Hybrid Bermudagrass, Tifton 10 and Tifway 419. All varieties perform well in the southwest plains but offer characteristic differences that enable you to choose the right variety for your purpose.
Tifton 10 Bermudagrass- An excellent performer, Tifton 10 is a
medium textured Bermudagrass with a natural deep blue-green color. It exhibits early spring green-up and has proven cold tolerance. Exceptional turf strength makes it easy to handle and a natural aggressiveness gives it superior recoverability and strong wear tolerance. Versatile and beautiful, this is truly an exceptional grass.
Tifway 419 Bermudagrass – A very dense and fine textured hybrid Bermudagrass that exhibits very aggressive growth properties. Tifway 419 is a very soft yet durable turfgrass that is appropriate for athletic and golf course use due to its ability to recover rapidly from injury. Tifway 419 exhibits moderately good cold tolerance, dark green coloration and has a very upright growth pattern.
One of the fastest and most economical methods to establish a hybrid bermudagrass turf area is with sprigs. A sprig is a vegetative piece of viable hybrid bermudagrass plant, specifically, a rhizome (growing below the soil level) or a stolon (growing above the soil level).
